PDA mapping software for chasing
PDA mapping software for chasing
Hey All,
can anyone advise if there are any PDA mapping packages available for PDAs that have accurate German maps??
or better still suggest a good removable GPS unit that has maps for gemany in it?
I have a fixed becker in the landrover but it does not have maps
Id be happy to buy a GPS bluetooth mouse and use one of my PDAs instead
any ideas for map packages that give accuarte maps?

Hi Simon,
i usa a PDA with the Tom Tom Software(Europe Package). As Add-On i use the POI-Warner Software. With this Software you could use many POI and create yourself POIs and Layers.
And sometimes it shoud be usefull to have a topographical map as hardcopy or as software on a notebook(topo50).

Hi Simon,
I use Reperion ( http://www.reperion.com/ ) on my PDA. It has no navigational functions as in 'take me from here to there', but it will show you where you are on a map. Among a lot of advantages (it's free) there is one catch: you need to be online with your PDA.
My PDA also has 'Destinator' which works fine offline.
Reperion was tested by me this week for online gps-tracking. It even works in Google Earth with rainradar overlay in real time
But for me to use that I need a PDA, laptop, Bluetooth, Wifi and a mobile phone. Besides that it all needs to be connected. Setting it up for chasing takes about 10 minutes.

ok well i have decided to install my TH-D7E in the landie and ordered a new antenna and mount.
I found a nice mount from RAM for the TH-D7e and will replace my old nokia handfree mount with this one.
in terms of maps - I decided to use my TC4400 tablet PC!
overkill maybe but I have a mobile mount system and power for it so I can mount it very well. I can also use a 3G datacard too so can use the radar maps remotely.
Questions is ... for mapping is there anything that does good maps! I mean topographical and detailed roads?
Maybe mapsource from Garmin - but pretty expensive
Autoroute - seemed to get pretty poor write ups?
any ideas while I am collecting all these bits together!
