hahah yes!

I also invited my colleague Nick GM4OGI - also soon to be DL hahah

we both have EUMETSAT access so could be useful for you Sven!

hahaha

that woke some body up!

yes we have a EUMETSAT access and both have the EKU and licence from EUMETSAT for accessing the data.

This is very high resolution - and multi spectral so can look at vis, IR, water vapour

we also have access to the rapid scan service which is excellent for assessing cell development in Tstorms.

will pop up an example and post the link!

Yes, quite impressing examples (and good explanations as well)! So you make me even more curious. Do you have the access just for "fun" (expensive fun, I think...) or are you professionally involved in weather prediction / analysis?

Cheers,
Andreas

no just amateur forecasting /watching

actually I am interested in storm chasing for a long time but also for funk amateur too

as you know microwave radar is used by weather services for storm tracking ...

well this is due to the reflections from various parts of the storm such as precipitation, water vapour, debris etc

for amateur use - the microwave bands above 1 GHz produce great reflections from storms and can be used to extend the normal line of sight rules.

In funk world this mode is known as "Rain scatter"

In large storms at 10K metres high geometric ranges can be 800km and allow 2 stations to make contacts in the microwaves bands.

Signals can be very loud and can have characterstics such as high levels of distortion caused by multipath / phase shifts from the storm cell.

generally small dishes and powers in the range 2-10 watts are used.

you can find alot of info on the net inc lots of info that relate to how radar at microwaves work

nice info on techs on RS and sounds of RS

Oh, does EUMETSAT grant some "amateur rates" or have you to pay the full price for it?

Yes, I heard about the "rain scatter freaks". ;) However I didn't expire it, yet. Actually I didn't watch such a QSO myself. I did some aurora and meteo scatter (old style) QSOs on VHF/UHF in the past (the latter is not really my cup of tea), but due some problems with my VHF/UHF equipment I'm only QRV in FM on the 2m- and 70cm-band in the moment. This should change within the summer holidays...

Till now I do not work on the SHF-bands, although I own a professional 1.8 m dish, which was used for a 2 GHz point to point link and shoud be nice for some experiments, but there must be someting to do when I'm retired, you know.

Thanks for the RS links!

Cheers,
Andreas

Hello guys!

I am close to finish of our Slovenian Skywarn website, should be done in few days!

The reason I am writing here is to get some help with one section. I would like to write down some paragraphs about ESO-European Skywarn Organization. Could someone help me out here, please?

PS: If you also have some additional papers about which we were talking in this topic, I'd appreciate it! http://www.skywarn.de/forum/viewtopic.php?p=20196

Thank you very much!

Hi Marko,

Long time, no contact.

I am setting up Skywarn Europe, that is, I make sure you can start in your country and by means of skywarn.eu the seperate Skywarn communities in Europe should more or less work together.

Skywarn Germany and Skywarn Austria are the holders of the skywarn.eu domain, I try to coordinate Skywarn Europe.

At this moment I am starting Skywarn Nederland (The Netherlands) as well. This takes a lot of time at the moment since I have to do most of it alone. Help is underway but it needs to get started anyway before I can give the project to others.

For Skywarn Europe I am desperately looking for help but did not find much. There is simply too much to do :-) Besides that I was in the States for the month of mai which slowed things down a lot.

Contact me per email if you need more info. You got the adress.

Regards,

Herman Harperink
